Kottiyoor Vysakha Mahotsavam

May 20

Kottiyoor Vysakha Mahotsavam is a 27-day-long annual pilgrimage held at the Akkare Kottiyoor Temple in Kannur district, Kerala. This sacred festival, observed during the Malayalam month of Edavam (May-June), is associated with the Daksha Yaga legend and is considered one of the most significant temple festivals in Kerala. The temple, situated deep within the dense forests on the banks of the Baveli River, opens exclusively during the festival period, drawing thousands of devotees. Rituals such as the Elaneer Vayppu (offering of tender coconuts) and Rohini Aradhana are major highlights of the celebrations. The serene and spiritual ambiance of the temple, often referred to as Dakshina Kashi (Southern Kashi), enhances the divine experience for pilgrims.
