Kondungallor Bharani
March 24 - March 25

The Kodungallur Bharani Festival, held at the Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple, is a dramatic and intensely devotional event where thousands of sword-wielding oracles, known as Velichappads, gather in a spectacular display of faith and ritualistic fervor. Dressed in vermilion costumes, both men and women swarm the temple premises, chanting and moving in a trance-like state. The festival’s most electrifying moment is Kaavu Thendal, where the oracles run around the temple, striking their foreheads with swords, symbolizing their spiritual connection with the Mother Goddess. This unique ritual, blending devotion, energy, and tradition, is one of Kerala’s most awe-inspiring religious spectacles.
