Aranmula Boat Race
September 9

The Aranmula Boat Race, the oldest riverboat fiesta in Kerala, is a grand spectacle held annually during Onam, in the months of August or September. This historic event takes place in the serene backwaters of Aranmula, near the renowned Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna and Arjuna. The highlight of the festival is the majestic snake boats (Chundan Vallams) gliding through the river in perfect synchronization, moving in pairs to the rhythmic chants and energetic singing of the oarsmen. Thousands of spectators gather along the riverbanks, cheering and celebrating the thrilling race, making it a mesmerizing blend of tradition, devotion, and festivity.
