Guruvayoor Ekadassi
December 1

Guruvayur Ekadasi, observed on the eleventh day of every lunar fortnight, is one of the most significant festivals at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple. This sacred day is marked by special prayers, rituals, and grand celebrations, drawing thousands of devotees. A major highlight of the festival is the memorial honor for Gajarajan Guruvayoor Kesavan, the legendary temple elephant known for his devotion and majestic presence. The Karanavar (head of the elephant family) places a wreath at Kesavan’s statue in front of Sreevalsam Guest House, while the other elephants stand in reverence. Another key attraction is the Chembai Sangeetholsavam, a grand music festival dedicated to the renowned Carnatic musician Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, where artists from across India gather to perform.
