Chinakkathoor Pooram

January 24, 2026

The Chinakkathoor Pooram, celebrated at the Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple in Palappuram near Ottapalam Taluk, Palakkad district, is a grand cultural and religious spectacle that attracts thousands of devotees and spectators every year. Held on the day of the Makam asterism in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February–March), the festival showcases Kerala’s vibrant folk traditions. The highlight of the event is the majestic elephant procession, where beautifully caparisoned elephants march through the streets to the rhythmic beats of Panchavadyam and Pandimelam, creating a mesmerizing experience. The festival also features Pulikali performances, where artists painted as tigers dance energetically to the pulsating drum beats. A true symbol of unity, Chinakkathoor Pooram brings together people of all religions and castes in a grand celebration of faith, culture, and tradition.
